This is why Detroit can’t have nice things

Because just about everyone in, and associated with, local government is a crook.

Two city pension fund officials were indicted Wednesday and accused of participating in a widening bribery scandal involving kickbacks, former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, free trips and a Christmas basket stuffed with cash.

Pension fund lawyer Ronald Zajac allegedly paid bribes and kickbacks to Kilpatrick, indicted former Detroit Treasurer Jeffrey Beasley and others, according to a grand jury indictment filed Wednesday in federal court. Zajac maintained a lucrative job as the lawyer for the city’s pension funds and received a pay hike, earning more than $400,000 a year.

Last summer, I had to pay an old water bill to (somehow- long story) The City of Detroit at their municipal building. They don’t accept cash. You can’t use a personal check or cash. You have to get a money order.

Because the employees – in the City building – steal the money.

The city is broke, and everyone is stealing stuff, but remember- an Emergency Financial Manager in Detroit is a threat to Democracy. One that calls for intervention by Jesse Jackson

The civil rights leader told The Associated Press Tuesday that turnaround expert Kevyn Orr’s appointment by the state is a “constitutional crisis” because it usurps local control.

Jackson wants the Justice Department to get involved and take action against Michigan’s emergency manager law. He plans to meet this week with city elected leaders and clergy.

So … everyone and his brother stealing shit from Detroit isn’t a crises, but putting a man in charge who will hopefully clean out the snakes and put Detroit on a path for success is a “constitutional crises”?

In this current political climate of voter suppression and intimidation – especially where large numbers of an Africa-American electorate are being targeted — we can ill afford to have the city of Detroit to be a success story for those hellbent on our disenfranchisement,” Owens said.

WEll … (black) Detroit has been in complete control of it’s destiny for over 40 years- sorta. I’m not making this a racial thing (the EM is black, btw), but THEY are. This is a FAILURE thing. A failure of leadership. A failure to confront bullshit, because it’s been protected by the false cries of racism for years. The powers that be in Detroit (all black) have been doing very well for themselves – through theft, graft and intimidation. Black folks were elected because they were black, not because they were the best folks for the job. And no one EVER questioned the job they did. They put other black folks into positions of power, not because THEY were the best people for the job, but because they were friends and relatives. They were all doing fine.

But the neighborhoods? Not so great. You’ve all seen the destruction porn.

The hostile take-over of Detroit happened long ago. A take-over of ineptitude, graft, and theft. It’s time to take it back.

If this ‘story’ were written into a Ken Follett historical fiction, the protagonists in the story would be using their physical strength and weaponry about now to defend themselves and their family. Just sayin’ 🙂

Unfortunately, in the cities to many have been reduced to slaves. They cannot act or make independent decisions. They believe what their leaders tell them, and don’t question authority. When the citizens have reacted, it’s only because the crimes are so egregious, and often their anger is misdirected.

    They don’t accept cash.

Blatantly illegal. See note on bills: “This note is legal tender for all debts public and private.”

Very good rule of thumb about anything: Get Jesse Jackson’s opinion, and then do the opposite.

We don’t give a shit about Detroit. Let them burn the fucking thing down – sooner the better.

A good way to clean up an area is to pile up all the garbage into one spot and light a match. Hey! Maybe that’s what God did at Sodom and Gomorrah!
