Kimberly Strassel explains the hollow victory that would be Obama’s Tax “win”. If the Republicans send him a bill – the only one he says he’ll sign – that extends the Bush tax rates on everyone but “the rich”, what is the end effect?

Republicans will make clear they sent that bill under duress—that they wanted to extend tax rates for everyone—and that Mr. Obama is responsible for the consequences. The president claims that raising taxes on job creators won’t hurt the economy. Fine, but if he’s wrong, he alone owns it. There will be no GOP fingerprints on this.

Plus, remember his “it’s not politics, it’s MATH” line? Well, he will finally be able to work that math magic:

The president will also finally have to show his math. He has argued his entire presidency that America’s debt hole could be filled by soaking the rich. He’ll now get his way, in a bill that likely provides $800 billion in revenue over 10 years, or $80 billion a year. To repeat: $80 billion a year. That is 7% of the $1.1 trillion deficit Mr. Obama ran in fiscal year 2012 alone. His tax hikes in hand, he can now explain why the hole keeps getting bigger.

Especially as no further tax revenue will be forthcoming. The president’s grand plan was to pocket the top tax rates and commit the GOP to later tax “reform” worth an additional $800 billion in closed tax deductions. His leverage has been holding hostage the middle-class rates. That hostage will now be dead. The GOP will have no reason to give him more.

His spending wish list? Ba haa haaa haa. Not gonna happen. New Stimulus? Extending unemployment insurance? Good luck with that, bub.

Jim Treacher on preparing us for our ultimate doom:

It’s odd… You only read stories about how great it is to be poor, how empowering it is to settle for less, when a Democrat is president. If a Republican was in charge, would WaPo be doing stories about how awesome it is to live in a breadbox?

They’re just trying to prepare you for the inevitable crash. Their ideas don’t work and they know it, so now all they can do is try to make you think their failure is somehow a statement of principle.

What brings this up is the trend of those small houses. Tiny houses. Trendy, small houses for our intellectual, and moral, betters.

There are no kitchen islands, three-car garages or living rooms that are never lived in. In fact, their increasing popularity could be seen as a denunciation of conspicuous consumption and a rejection of the idea that more is, well, more.

The group behind Stronghold’s tiny-house community calls itself Boneyard Studios. “As property values and rents rise across the city, we want to showcase this potential option for affordable housing,” the group writes on its Web site.

Apparently these folks have never heard of the affordable (and small) living option of mobile homes. Trailers. Double wides. None of which have kitchen islands, three-car garages, or living rooms never lived in.

Please note: Key Obamacare policy writer leaves Obama administration to work in health industry. I know, you’re shocked. Revolving door. This is why our country’s wealth is being concentrated around DC, and “The Hunger Games” should be viewed as a cautionary tale.

Amid the headlines that our unemployment rate has fallen to 7.7%, is this little tidbit:

Confused why the unemployment rate dropped? The same, favorite BLS adjustment – a drop in the labor force participation rate which declined by 0.2% to 63.6% once again, as the number of people out of the labor increased by over 540K to 88,883,000.

The number of people who DROPPED OUT OF THE LABOR FORCE LAST MONTH WAS OVER 540,000.

Repeat as necessary to any Obamabot who is crowing about the job numbers.
