FIAF – Stinkfist Edition
Yes, this is what is wrong with politics today. And yesterday. And since the invention of the 24-hour news cycle.
Richard Mourdock made the unforced error of speaking plainly; voicing an opinion heartfelt, and one that many agree with. That life is a gift from God, and that in the “horrible situation of rape” the innocent child did NOTHING. This isn’t terribly controversial. Who would agree that the child of rape “deserves” or necessarily must die?
But he was roundly criticized. The Associated Press, The Atlantic, and Debby Wasserman Shcultz went full attack mode. “Richard Mourdock’s rape comments are outrageous and demeaning to women. ” Huh?
Mr. Mourdock chose his words poorly while attempting something dangerous — to grapple with a serious moral question in a political debate. People wonder why politicians are so guarded and rehearsed. Well, this is why. One stray word and you become fodder for the demogoguery machine.
What Mourdock was saying, if inartfully, was that the child so conceived is innocent, and doesn’t deserve to die because of the crime of his or her father. He understands that this is a tough issue. It makes everyone horribly uncomfortable. But the liberal answer — abort the child or else be accused of approving of rape — is a slimy abuse of tragedy and a disgrace to civil discourse.
But everything must be said artfully, the FIRST time. Duh. Just use a teleprompter.
This is a good article here.
Obama does not know how to govern. He does not know how to address the economy or war. The one thing he knows how to do is be popular. That is the one and only skill that he has cultivated in his life. And it is a good skill for a politician, but a politician whose only skill is popularity had better avoid taking responsibility for anything that might make him unpopular.
But read it all. I just picked out my favorite bit.
The economy, really, really sucks.
Obama claims it isn’t as bad as Republicans claim (and he inherited a mess) but that in his defense, the steps he took made it less bad than it could have been.
<a href="But the data are clear that Obama's economic recovery — which started in June 2009, five months after he was sworn in — has been worse than any recovery since the Great Depression.
Overall economic growth has been slower in this recovery than in any of the previous post-World War II recoveries, according to the Minneapolis Fed, using data from Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Those pesky facts are racist, me thinks.
In other news, I cannot work another double shift until I get new shoes.
WTF is wrong with Biden?
Woods said Biden came over to his family and asked in a “loud and boisterous” voice, “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?”
“Are these the words of someone who is sorry?” said Woods.
The grieving father also described his brief encounter with President Obama during the ceremony for the Libya victims.
“When he finally came over to where we were, I could tell that he was rather conflicted, a person who was not at peace with himself,” Woods said. “Shaking hands with him, quite frankly, was like shaking hands with a dead fish. His face was pointed towards me but he would not look me in the eye, his eyes were over my shoulder.”
And Hillary …
Hillary Clinton’s comments to Woods raise even more questions about the White House’s official story on the Benghazi attack, which has already been extremely inconsistent.
After apologizing for his loss, Woods said Clinton told him that the U.S. would “make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”
Ok, enough of that.
