President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama bantered playfully and held hands Monday during a taping of the female-oriented talk show, “The View,” giving no indication of second thoughts about the appearance despite criticism that the president was blowing off international diplomacy in order to take part in the often-fluffy daytime gabfest.
“I told folks I’m just supposed to be eye candy here for you guys,” President Obama said during a back-and-forth about him being the only man on the program. The show’s five co-hosts are women.
Yes, it just appears that Obama is blowing off his job in order to tape “The View.” Republican shill, Wolf Blitzer–
Wolf Blitzer suggested Monday that President Obama’s decision to go on “The View” will be “potentially a missed opportunity” to meet with foreign leaders.
Obama does not have bilateral meetings scheduled for the United Nations General Assembly this week, but will tape an episode of “The View” in New York on Monday. The administration has defended the decision, explaining that Secretary of State Clinton will meet with people.
Oh, well, Hillary Clinton will meet with them. What’s the beef, then?
“He’s going to be speaking to millions of people who will be watching ‘The View,’ and they determined that is an important thing for the president to do only six weeks before the election,” he remarked. He said that it was the same reason Romney recently appeared on “Live! With Kelly and Michael.”
Of course … ROMNEY isn’t currently the POTUS, so he has no obligation, right, or duty to meet with world leaders. Moar:
World leaders will be holding tete-a-tetes this week as the annual United Nations General Assembly convenes — but not President Obama, who will instead be chatting it up with the ladies of “The View.”
Unlike his predecessors, Obama won’t be on hand for private meetings with diplomats and heads of state from 193 nations.
Instead, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will take his place at the table, while the leader of the free world accompanies First Lady Michelle Obama to the friendly couch on the ABC talk show, which will tape tomorrow and air Tuesday.
Campaigning takes precedent over presidenting, I guess.
But, I really want to take issue with the fact that Obama believes himself to be “eye candy.” What sort of egotist would 1) believe and 2) repeat that?
Let’s look to photographic evidence:
