Truth Has No Place In a Presidential Election
Brian Preston on that “Romney killed my wife” ad. WHY?
The uninformed are seeing it in their facebook feeds, twinned up with the latest from MoveOn or whichever smear group is running in parallel today. People will see the ad, and most of them will not see the CNN, PolitiFact or Washington Post fact-checks that declare the ad a total fraud. Out in the wild, the ad is intended do its job of toxifying Romney just enough to peel off a few of his voters and ramp up hate for him among Obama’s voters. That’s the point of the ad, not to tell anything that’s true, but just to stir the pot, sully Romney and depress his potential vote.
Why? Because people are stupid.
Juxtapose this with Obama v.2008. Hope and Change. New tone. He was going to be a different sort of politician.
The Obama team ran four years ago selling a product that didn’t exist. They created a hologram dream candidate, multi-racial, capable of great oratorical performances as long as he stuck to the script, with not much of a legislative record that could be used against him, and with a career prior to politics that could be made to sound romantic rather than fringe. He was a teacher! He organized communities! He cared. They marketed this product the way Hollywood might market a movie: “In a world..where a country is divided by race, and by wealth, and by a long and drawn-out war…comes a man…the perfect man…post-racial…post-partisan…promising peace. That man…is Barack Obama.” Cut to smiling, waving young man, flash bulbs pop as the adoring crowd roars, fade to black.
He was a media created candidate. His opinons, and previous ideology white-washed to make make him acceptable to the middle, who fell for “Obama, the Pragmatist” hook, line, and sinker.
Somewhat related, the other day, a man named Wayne Allen Root wrote an article the other day stating that he believed that Obama would never unseal his college records because it would hurt his chances for re-election.
The fact that is college records are sealed – is a fact. A mysterious one. Why? Haven’t we been regaled with articles about Bush II’s poor grades (which were leaked by Yale) and how Gore was so much smarter than he?
The first question I’d ask is, if you had great grades, why would you seal your records? So let’s assume Obama got poor grades. Why not release the records? He’s president of the free world, for gosh sakes. He’s commander-in-chief of the U.S. military. Who’d care about some poor grades from three decades ago, right? So then what’s the problem? Doesn’t that make the media suspicious? Something doesn’t add up.
Root suspect Obama was admitted to college as a foreign exchange student, for one. That would be terribly embarrassing. And his records would additionally show:
A) He rarely ever attended class.
B) His grades were not those typical of what we understand it takes to get into Harvard Law School.
C) He attended Columbia as a foreign exchange student.
D) He paid little for either undergraduate college or Harvard Law School because of foreign aid and scholarships given to a poor foreign students like this kid Barry Soetoro from Indonesia.
Most of the media treats this entire issue as if it were some sort of fringe/wacko/crazy movement. But I can’t help but come back to the idea of WHY? Why would he seal his records, unless there was something he didn’t want folks to know.
Which flows nicely into the issue that if Romney must release his tax records, Obama better release those college transcripts.
This is how the left dismisses the argument. A more disingenuous one I’ve never read.
. It’s part of the Right’s effort to “vet” Obama, four years after the media made him “one of the most vetted presidential candidates in recent memory.” The whole idea that we don’t know Obama is “simply absurd,” rooted in the fact that extreme conservatives “still cannot accept that he beat them in 2008.”
Most vetted candidate in recent memory? Perhaps if you’d had a closed-head injury.
When you “get to the bottom of the conspiracy,” says Sarah Jones at Politicus USA, it’s clear that Wayne is a birther, and his “foreign exchange student” theory is part of the claim that Obama isn’t really American.
Wrong. The claim is that Obama CLAIMED to be a foreigner. Big difference.
The reason transcripters are “freaking out in unison” about Obama’s college grades “couldn’t be more obvious,” says Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs: They’re trying anything they can to “divert attention away from Mitt Romney’s refusal to release financial information.”
HA. It is to laugh. That they can merely claim the President fully “vetted” and clap their hands. That they believe what’s good for the goose isn’t good for the gander; Obama doesn’t need to release any records, but Romney does.
And … so it starts.
I knew it would. Not by the administration, but by the left.
The tolerant left.
