FIAF- Jobs Edition
The real wealth gap you should be concerned about:
As the average net worth of Congress has increased since 2004, and held about even from 2007 to 2010, the average American family net worth dropped 40 percent from 2007 to 2010 to an average of $77,300.
In 2010, the average net worth for a U.S. senator was $13,224,333. The average net worth for a Democratic senator was $19,383,524, compared to $7,054,258 for a Republican senator. That’s a difference of $12.3 million.
80,000 added in June. No change in unemployment. And for July? expectations fluctuated between 95,000 and 100,000 jobs. Will the numbers mean much?
Economists at Morgan Stanley say Friday’s job gains could be slightly higher than they’d otherwise be because July is the month when auto makers usually idle plants for a while to get ready for the next wave of activity. Government number-crunchers, to account for this seasonal factor, adjust the numbers accordingly. But this year, some auto makers aren’t shutting down for as long given demand for cars, which means you don’t have as many laid-off workers. Also, the auto industry is just smaller than it used to be. And yet the government’s still making the same seasonal adjustments. So Morgan Stanley figures we’ll get a 10,000 pop in July that will be reversed.
One caveat: the week in which the Labor Department prepares its report coincides with the week ended July 14, when initial claims for jobless benefits jumped higher on the volatility surrounding the plant shutdowns.
And the number is 163,000. Unemployment goes to 8.3%. U-6 rose to 15%
June was revised DOWN from 80,000 to 64,000. Oops. Do July’s numbers mean ANYTHING?
Obviously, Obama’s plans is working, right?
Gas is back up. Almost to $4 by me.
Hey, did I mention that someone told me that Harry Reid likes sheep, IYKWIMAITTYD. Of course, I’m not SURE. But that’s what I heard.
He may have been diddling sheep for the last ten years.
Obama’s busy, busy schedule for today:
10:30 am || Receives the Presidential Daily Briefing
11:00 am || Meets with senior advisers
11:45 am || Delivers remarks on the Bush tax cuts
Of course, it’s his BIRTHDAY WEEKEND, so obviously the Big Guy wants to scoot out early and start the Par-tay early.
The tolerant left is supposedly staging a “kiss-off” at Chik-fil-A’s today. Deroy Murdock (who supports gay unions):
Gay activists could encourage people to patronize Starbucks or simply avoid Chick-fil-A. That’s not good enough. Instead, some on August 3 will stage a National Same-Sex Kiss Day at Chicks-fil-A nationwide.
Painting heretofore relaxed straight people into a sexual corner is no way to engender gay-friendliness.
Yea, nothing is going to convince me of their argument that a gross display of public affection at a fast food restaurant. I don’t want to see ANYONE making out; gay or straight.
Ok, now I know no one likes my music, but this one is good. Give it more than a minute:
