Hope and Change Happy Days/trolling Huffpo
CEO pay up, more poor people, fewer middle class. The Huffpo is ON IT:
Squeezed by rising living costs, a record number of Americans – nearly 1 in 2 – have fallen into poverty or are scraping by on earnings that classify them as low income.
The latest census data depict a middle class that’s shrinking as unemployment stays high and the government’s safety net frays. The new numbers follow years of stagnating wages for the middle class that have hurt millions of workers and families.
Uhm, one quibble. If you are collecting money from the “government safety net”, are you really a member of the middle class? Should you be?
No, the safety net is supposed to be helping those poor people, so it isn’t the fraying of the safety net that’s pushing people from the middle class.
IT’S THE ECONOMY.
The struggling Americans include Zenobia Bechtol, 18, in Austin, Texas, who earns minimum wage as a part-time pizza delivery driver. Bechtol and her 7-month-old baby were recently evicted from their bedbug-infested apartment after her boyfriend, an electrician, lost his job in the sluggish economy.
After an 18-month job search, Bechtol’s boyfriend now works as a waiter and the family of three is temporarily living with her mother.
Just throwing something out here … the greatest way to avoid poverty is to not have a baby until you are 1) married and 2) over the age of 21. Zenobia failed both of these tests. An 18 year old, right out of high school (I hope) simply doesn’t have the employment experience to get a job much beyond minimum wage, and it’s pretty hard to raise a family on minimum wage. And, her boyfriend has THREE kids? Uhm … why are women so stupid that they still have sex with him?
In other news – THE GOLDEN GLOBES HAVE BEEN RELEASED. Isn’t that the greatest thing ever? How much do those stars make anyway … oh, who cares? amiright?!!!
I’d love to say I agree or disagree with this or that nomination, but I have to be honest here. I haven’t seen a single movie on the list.
CEO Pay jumps – Bosses, make BANK! OMG, not those horrible, greedy capitalists, again! When is going to be legal to kill them?
And in the year before America’s highest-highest-paid corporate chief netted more than $145 million, U.S. median income fell to below $27,000, meaning half of all earners made less than that.
That’s just criminal. I mean, Leonardo DiCaptrio only made $77 million last year in compensation for two movies. Which amounts to how many months of work? Of course, James Cameron pulled in $275 million in 2010.
Of note – Johnny Dep made $20 million for The Tourist, which FLOPPED. 2010 earnings: $40 million.
