Ford Pulls Ad Critical Of Auto Bailout
Did they get a call from the White House? Why yes they did. Detroit News’ Daniel Howes:
As part of a campaign featuring “real people” explaining their decision to buy the Blue Oval, a guy named “Chris” says he “wasn’t going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government,” according the text of the ad, launched in early September.
“I was going to buy from a manufacturer that’s standing on their own: win, lose, or draw. That’s what America is about is taking the chance to succeed and understanding when you fail that you gotta’ pick yourself up and go back to work.”
Of course, that WAS what America was about.
Because Ford pulled the ad after individuals inside the White House questioned whether the copy was publicly denigrating the controversial bailout policy CEO Alan Mulally repeatedly supported in the dark days of late 2008, in early ’09 and again when the ad flap arose. And more.
With President Barack Obama tuning his re-election campaign amid dismal economic conditions and simmering antipathy toward his stimulus spending and associated bailouts, the Ford ad carried the makings of a political liability when Team Obama can least afford yet another one. Can’t have that.
You’re not allowed, in Obama’s America, to disparage the Auto bailout, or -indirectly – Obama. Especially during the election cycle.

Fuck that.
And Fuck Ford too.
What the hell is the world coming to when a Flint kid can’t buy American anymore because the American Car Companies are AINO…American in name only.

Obama can’t pull my “ad” of dis-satisfaction with him and his socialist attack on my country. He won’t pull out of the POTUS race; i won’t pull out of talking against him. Remember: “One if by land, two if by sea…” what signal do you give when the Democrats have let the enemy in the White House?

Good link from Michelle Malkin, Car in. She’s got an update coming up, from the columnist you linked. Check it out on the Malkin link!
September 27, 2011 at 3:39 pm
Things seem to be going from one side to the other in denying if Ford has really pulled the ad or not, or if the WH had anything to do with it. At least according to Michelle’s tweets.
Perhaps if Ford came out with a definitive statement (one way or the other) this whole kerfluffle would die off rather quickly, I am thinking.
As an aside: Congrats on the linky love from Ace and Malkin. Can Insty be far behind??

Herself and I bought a Ford Escape for the same reason. First Ford we’ve ever owned and we are quite pleased with it.
After the Obama regime screwed the creditors of Chrysler, we will never buy another one. Teh iWon keeps this up and I’ll be buying non-union foreign cars made in Tennessee.

I guess Mr. TiFW had better buy that Mustang before Obama has a chance to screw things up with Ford, as well….

“…says an industry source familiar with the situation”.

We’ll never get the full inside scoop; I don’t think the government can actually put pressure on a company to pull ads as long as it’s not illegal? Perhaps the ad was pulled for corporate reasons and not necessarily because Ford was pressured.
