No One Begrudges a Presidential Vacation …

Staycation Nation to Watch President Present Go Off on Yet Another Vacation.

Best title ever.

But even better is this little nugget that Bryan Preston found- Jay Carney criticizing Bush for going on vacation.

Ba haa haa haaa.

Back in July, when they were planning what the President should do during his month-long vacation (as part of their effort to persuade the public that he wasn’t actually on vacation in the generally accepted sense of what vacation means — i.e., having fun and not working), the image-makers hit upon a clever idea. Every week, they decided, they would send the President somewhere outside Texas for a day or a day and a half to hold an event of some kind in which he would mix with “real Americans.”

Jay, I thought no one would begrudge the President spending time with his family?

It is also, as I think anyone who has covered in the past, either in this administration or others, there is no such thing as a presidential vacation. The Presidency travels with you. He will be in constant communication and get regular briefings from his national security team as well as his economic team.

Of course, then there is the cost …

But, it’s worth it, right?

And he dismissed the criticism of vacationing presidents. “I think all this ‘Why is he taking a vacation?’ stuff is ginned up by the media,” he said. “I don’t think any American will fault him for getting away, especially if he comes back with some fresh ideas on how to create jobs.”

Obama will certainly have a lot of space to brainstorm. The $20 million farm on Cobbs Hill Road features four dwellings, a swimming pool and a basketball court. Google Earth shows that there is also a single hole golf area with two bunkers. The president, his wife and two daughters can also go to private Squibnocket Beach or Great Pond. There is an apple orchard, and flower and vegetable gardens.

Yea, Obama’s gonna come back with some great new ideas on how to create jobs. @@

Jay Carney: “There’s no such thing as a presidential vacation, the presidency travels with you.”

    Tool

  2. Do you suppose he’ll put his feet on the furniture there, too, or is that something he reserves for the taxpayers’ property?

Once you’ve put your feet up on the Resolute Desk, everything else pales in comparison I imagine.

Then you haven’t tried putting a laundry basket full of clean clothes on the recently made bed – forget the national press, my wife would tear you a new one right then and there. 🙂

There was a small fire at the compound they’ll be staying at – it was about a week or so ago. I’m surprised they’ll still visit.

Personally, I think the further we get him from Washington, the better. Despite “the Presidency travels with you”, him being in Martha’s Vineyard has GOT to reduce some of the damage he does to the country on a daily basis.

“There are few other ways that can directly put money into the economy than applying unemployment insurance,” Carney said.

    Unemployment creates jobs.

    Fucking genius.

    1) apply for unemployment

    3) PROFIT

  7. Well, spending money at the grocery store spurs innovation and the expansion of the economy.

After all, I’m pretty sure it was unemployment benefits and food stamps that made such innovations like Crystal Pepsi a raging success, right?

  8. And those Section 8 vouchers supplied all the investment capital for other great examples of American Exceptionalism in the grocery store aisles…like New Coke, or canned bacon.

What no one seems to be picking up, is that it is very hard to be handed an economy at a massive low, and keep it there. By default, its almost impossible to have things get worse, and he’s managed it.

He deserves a break. Fucking up this badly is hard!

  10. Car in Says:

MJ, he’s going to come back from vacation with lots of ideas on how to improve things.

    Now watch this drive.
