You know why you can ignore everything Robert Reich says?

Because he’s socialist. Or a communist.

Yet, remarkably, taxes on the top have plummeted. From the 1940s until 1980, the top tax income tax rate on the highest earners in America was at least 70 percent. In the 1950s, it was 91 percent. Now it’s 35 percent. Even if you include deductions and credits, the rich are now paying a far lower share of their incomes in taxes than at any time since World War II.

The estate tax (which only hits the top 2 percent) has also been slashed. In 2000 it was 55 percent and kicked in after $1 million. Today it’s 35 percent and kicks in at $5 million. Capital gains – comprising most of the income of the super-rich – were taxed at 35 percent in the late 1980s. They’re now taxed at 15 percent.

If the rich were taxed at the same rates they were half a century ago, they’d be paying in over $350 billion more this year alone, which translates into trillions over the next decade. That’s enough to accomplish everything the nation needs while also reducing future deficits.

He’s advocating a 70% + tax on the wealthy. To “accomplish everything the nation needs.”

Of course, he’s wrong. For so many reasons.

You’re a socialist too. We’re all socialists. Pure capitalism is a very harsh existance, and we’ve chosen as a society to soften some of those hard edges.

But, next time your house is on fire, feel free to call a capitalist.

    OC!! You’re back!

Any chance you have the answers to my questions yet from a few weeks back?

By the way, saying that paying for things like fire departments is the equivalent of paying for everyone’s healthcare is yet another example of just how incredibly stupid you are.

The next time you need some incredible advancement in healthcare to help a relative of yours survive, call a socialist.

And please be sure to tell us all how that works out for you.

  3. Car in Says:

    You talk in platitudes, OC.

And, I haven’t chosen anything. The American people didn’t choose all this shit either.

You wanna see a harsh existence? Come visit me in Detroit. I’ll show you what all this “softening” has done.

47% of our population doesn’t pay any fucking income tax, that’s what.

That’s not softening the edges. That’s tyranny of the masses. That’s government control of the underclass.

Slavery was abolished way back when. Now people enter into slavery willingly.

You do realize that the early formal fire “departments” were private, for-hire enterprises? Ever wonder why their organizational units are called “companies”?

    Epic fail, OC.

  5. OceanCat Says:

Of course I know the first fire departments were private. That’s why I said it. Only the rich could afford to put out their house fires and we decided as a society that it wasn’t right. That we needed some social services. We are all socialists.

  6. Hotspur Says:

It’s a swing and a miss. Strike three.

  7. agiledog Says:

Paying to have a fire department which will stop a fire from spreading from the house next door to my house is a plus for me. Paying to put food on the next door neighbor’s kitchen table is not. Or paying for his kid to go to the doctor. Those are examples of socialism. The first is an example of self-interest – captialism.

  8. OceanCat Says:

Down with socialism. Up with poor people dying.

Oh, wait, aren’t you the party of “life”.

LOLOLOLOL. Silly me. You’re only in favor of FETAL life. The already-borns can go fuck themselves and die…hopefully quickly.

  9. The already borns can get the fuck off the couch and do for themselves. And they are entitled to whatever the fuck they can earn, just like I am.

They are not entitled to whatever I earn, no matter how great they believe their “need” to be.

And I’m in favor of INNOCENT LIFE, which cannot speak in its own defense against mendaious mothers who are urged by a culture of death to kill their children…although in your case, I’d be SORELY tempted to make an exception.

  10. OceanCat Says:

Those lazy-already-born-fucks have innocent children who do die from lack of food and medical care, so it’s plain that you are full of shit. You ONLY care about controlling women’s reproduction.

  11. Car in Says:

People here in the US, innocent children, are dying from lack of food and medical care?

  12. agiledog Says:

Those lazy-already-born-fucks have innocent children who do die from lack of food and medical care

IF this were true, it sounds like those deaths are the fault of those lazy-already-born-fucks, doesn’t it? If you can’t take care of kids, maybe you shouldn’t have had unprotected sex and risked having kids.

  13. Hotspur Says:

You mean there are consequences for stupid decisions? Oh, we can’t have that.

  14. You mean there are consequences for stupid decisions? Oh, we can’t have that.

    BBBBBUT THAT WOULDN’T BE FAAAAAAIIIIIRRRRRR!!!

I DON’T HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE!

    I DON’T! I DON’T! I DON’T!

    *goes to room, slams door*

    /SeaKitty off/

But what about the BAAAAAAA-BEEEEEES?!?!?!?!?!? We should have a culture of LIFE. Everything should LIVE. You couldn’t possibly be saying: tough shit if those kids got shitty parents, let them STARVE, let them DIE.

Or, are you saying that those kids have BECOME lazy-already-born-fucks the minute after they were born?

  16. Car in Says:

This is stupid. No one is starving in this country.

    Lord.

  17. agiledog Says:

But what about the BAAAAAAA-BEEEEEES?!?!?!?!?!? We should have a culture of LIFE. Everything should LIVE.

    Wrong. Next question?

You couldn’t possibly be saying: tough shit if those kids got shitty parents, let them STARVE, let them DIE.

    Yup, I am. Next Question?

Or, are you saying that those kids have BECOME lazy-already-born-fucks the minute after they were born?

Nope, that’s not what I said.

0 for 3, OceanCat. In baseball, you’d be walking back to the dugout with your head hanging low in shame. Since you’re a progressive and have no shame, here, we’ll just laugh at you.

Get it straight – not all conservatives are social conservatives. I believe in live and let die – you make a stupid choice, you pay the consequences.
