KILL THOSE WHO INSULT ISLAM (was: WTF are they talking about?/updated twice)

The White House on the Quran burning:

The White House has termed the burning of the Quran as “un-American” while stressing that “absolutely nothing” justified the killings of UN personnel in Afghanistan following protests over the destruction of the holy text.

Freedom of speech? Have they ever heard of it?

“We absolutely condemn the burning of a holy text. We think it’s un-American and inappropriate,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.

So, the White House is calling the Quran a holy text? Not that it’s considered by followers to be a holy text. No. According to the White House, it is a holy text.

I guess we should all just convert right now.

Of course, I do agree with Jonah here:

Up until very, very, recently the act of burning books symbolized precisely the sort of intolerance and closed-mindedness our culture rightly condemns or at least shuns. It would be a very weird irony if we started celebrating the burning of books as a way to prove how tolerant and open-minded we are.

Burning a book is a very ignorant and unenlightened manner of protest. Which, ironically, also describes the savages in the Middle East.

More discussion over at Black is White’s place.

Updated twice:

My comment over at BiW’s, which is a point I want to stress:

I will add, that Jones’[sic] act alone did not spur the thugs into action. The burning was when? I believe a few weeks ago.

Nuthin happened.

Then, you got our best friend Hamid Karzai condemning[sic] the act on March 24- from the WSJ:

Most Afghans learned about the Quran burning in Florida only when Mr. Karzai on March 24 condemned the act as “a crime against the religion and the entire Muslim nation,” called on the U.S. and the U.N. to bring the perpetrators to justice and demanded “a satisfactory response to the resentment and anger of over 1.5 billion Muslims around the world.”

Karzai also demanded [sic] that the US Congress and UN need to “bring justice to the perpetrators of this crime.”

Then, you’ve got the fiery sermons by “government paid” clerics at the cities main mosques, which lead to the protests.

In addition, during the protests, it has been reported that people over loudspeakers were stating that hundreds of of “holy books” were being destroyed over here.

TRY to find a story on the burning of the book- not the follow-up stories since then. See anyone who covered teh event. Go ahead. I just looked for a few minutes and I came up empty.

Nada. Nothing.

Yet, Karzai brings it up and demands apologies and persecution.

Fuck them.

We don’t make Constitutional decisions based on what other countries do or do not do. We have a broad (but not unrestricted) freedom of speech. In this country we can burn books if we want to, even if others don’t approve.

There are lots of books I’d like to burn, they’re worthless. I don’t consider them precious. I just read half of one. I threw it in the garbage. Had a fire been going, I would have tossed it in. I’m sure someone thought it was the, “best book ever!”

Freedom of speech is simply one of those freedoms, that when some Americans use it, offends others…..so be it. That’s the price you pay to have it.
Especially when it’s savages that treat women and children (ordained by that book) like crap, who are the savages using a book burning as an excuse to kill others.

  2. mare Says:

Oh, and that “Holy Text” that the White House is talking about condones some pretty “un-American” treatment of women and children.

  3. Car in Says:

Jonah’s point, of course, is that book burning resembles- symbolically – censorship.

    In that light, I agree.

I think Terry Jones is an idiot, who risked lives of others to make a stupid point.

It was a savage statement aimed at savages. Made safely from Florida.

He should take his act on the road. Say… to the middle east.

  4. Car in Says:

Mare – shame on you. It’s a holy book.

    Submit.

  5. agiledog Says:

Jonah’s point, of course, is that book burning resembles- symbolically – censorship.

Maybe in general, but not specifically in this case. It was a protest of the ideas presented in that “book”. And it wasn’t Terry Jones’ intent to prove how tolerant he was by burning the book.

Did he do anything illegal? Did he physically harm anyone? No? Than he is free to do this. And if Muslims kill people over it, it shows what savages THEY are.

  6. MJ Says:

Imma gonna ping this back. Its a good discussion.

  7. […] books is a very odd form of protest that isn’t very intelligent.  Check out Car in’s, Is This Blog On? for more details and a good discussion of the consequences and rights related to this […]

“Did he do anything illegal? Did he physically harm anyone? No? Than he is free to do this. And if Muslims kill people over it, it shows what savages THEY are.”

Agree 100%. I don’t like the “piss Christ” piece of crap some “artist” produced. The one being I hold Sacred was, what I consider, worse than burned, however, the only legal things I can do are; don’t pay for a ticket to that exhibit, encourage defunding of tax dollars to “artists,” and publicly scorn anyone who is a patron of that artist. Welcome to a society that doesn’t mutilate their young female citizens.

  9. Car in Says:

Yes. Exactly. but, he still is an idiot.

He’s no different from a flag burner in Berkley. Let them try that shit in Texas.

Those doing the heavy lifting on this issue are the thinkers – like Bill Bennett. And Steyn. This guy’s just a joker burning a book because he doesn’t really have anything to say.

  10. Car in Says:

I mean, you want to see at true warrior in the fight against Islam – i point to Brigitte Gabriel.

  11. agiledog Says:

Car in, I really don’t know what Jones’ intent was – I am certainly not going to waste my time going to find out. But you’re proving our point with this: “He’s no different from a flag burner in Berkley. Let them try that shit in Texas.

Would Texans cause a riot and kill PEOPLE WHO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLAG BURNING? I don’t think so. Americans aren’t savages – Muslims who will use a public rejection of their lunatic creed as an excuse to kill innocent others are.

Jones is a wanna-be. And he knew that his actions would cause violence. But ask yourself this: who has the MBM and the pResident mentioned recently: Brigitte Gabriel, Robert Spencer, or Terry Jones?

  12. Car in Says:

Well, the Texas/Berkely illustration demonstrates that Texans would kick the shit – likely – of someone burning the flag in their midst. So, the demonstrator does it in Berkley, where nothing will happen to them.

Middle Eastern muslims are savages, though, so as long as they get blood from somewhere, they don’t really care about the details.

Jones is coward. That’s my only point, and I simply cannot ignore that.

Taken by itself – people told him that his actions could possilby cause American servicemen to DIE and he didn’t care.

    For that, he’s an asshole.

The entire rest of the issue aside, I cannot simply ignore that aspect of this complicated story.

And, the MSM ignored the actual burning of the Quron when it happened. I looked for a story. I couldn’t even find the actual date when it happened.

Obama’s an asshole, so I don’t care what position he takes.

  13. Car in Says:

And, being an asshole isn’t a crime. It’s merely my opinion.

Now, what do they want in Kabul? They want Terry Jones to be put on trial.

    Bahaa haa haa …

So, what do we do now Maxine waters?

Actions have consequences, and I am disgusted and saddened at the outcome of Mr. Jones’ narrow vision of the world. While we respect freedom of speech, this is tantamount to crying fire in a crowded theater. In no uncertain terms, I join other leaders in absolutely denouncing Mr. Jones’ actions, and I encourage others to come forward and speak out.

Actions have consequences. Because those poor arabs can’t help themselves, right Maxine.

Ba ha ahaa … She doesn’t really want to go there, now does she?

  14. Car in Says:

    Even worse is this

My condolences are with the loved ones of the victims of Mr. Jones’ bigotry. From his extreme demonstration of hate, let us all come together as a global community steadfast in our opposition to hate in all its forms and resolute in our determination to make the world a better, more peaceful and tolerant place for future generations.”

The victims of Mr. Jones’ bigotry. Got that?

Because those poor savages couldn’t help themselves, right Mrs. Waters?

  15. MJ Says:

Yeah, Car in, that’s what I mean about the soft bigotry of low expectations. I’m starting to have my thoughts muddled on this. I think we can expect muslims here to react a certain way, meaning within the limits of the law, but the ME? Not so sure.

If they are this easily led to murder I’m not so sure we should be fighting a conventional war. Can’t we manipulate these people into killing each other? Lets ship ’em all a note that reads, “Allah says your neighbor is gay. What are you going to do about that?”

  16. Car in Says:

Yep. We (sadly) cannot expect them to react in reasonable, civilized ways. And, we can’t hold them responsible when they act like barbarians, unless they’re here in the United States.

I do NOT want to subjugate ourselves to middle eastern backward ideas – limiting our speech, etc. But I think we should concentrate on what will make things better. They certainly cannot compete in the arena of ideas with us – but they can with the “let’s see who can be the bigger asshole.”

Terry Jones didn’t cause those deaths. But he is an asshole.

    Just saying.

  17. agiledog Says:

Terry Jones didn’t cause those deaths. But he is an asshole.

Both of those statements are true. And despite your use of “but”, those two statement are also unrelated.

  18. Taken by itself – people told him that his actions could possilby cause American servicemen to DIE and he didn’t care.

    For that, he’s an asshole.

The entire rest of the issue aside, I cannot simply ignore that aspect of this complicated story.

Yeah, I heard Hannity hammering that point like a nubile young intern when I was driving home yesterday, and I think it misses something important.

When you sign on that line and give Uncle Sam the blank check with your life, you swear an oath to defend the Constitution…the very same document that guarantees your right to “be an asshole”. Either that means everything, or it means nothing.

I leave it to you to decide, but I do find the notion that one has a moral obligation not to offend bloodthirsty savages in the exercise of a right that our troops have sworn to protect because it might make things more dangerous for them while they are serving in a war zone just a little too Bizzaro World come here for my comfort.

  19. Car in Says:

I don’t think that notion. If Terry Jones had a “moral obligation” to not offend bloodthristy savages … then Karzai and the clerics, etc … also had the same sort of moral obligation.

Given the current ROE – it is an irresponsible act.

If we’re gonna bring it to the savages in the ME, let’s bring it.

The problem i have with all of this – is that the politicians appease, the military appease … all on so many levels. It’s bullshit.

    Hearts and minds. Fuck it.

Terry Jones can burn all the holy books he wants, and when the savages in the Middle East decide they want some American blood , they are met with the business end of a gun.

Then the media doesn’t turn around and write about the Kabul massacre of the poor protesters.

  20. Tex Taylor Says:

Like I read the other day. If Terry Jones had take the Koran and dunked it a vase of urine rather than burning it, wouldn’t the National Endowment for the Arts and most liberals consider that artistic, not to be protested but paid for by the American tax payers?

Terry Jones is an idiot and buffoon – but less so than those who continue to appease radical Jihad, or think it a good idea to infringe upon free speech to prove our delicate nature to the world.

You don’t befriend bullies. You knock their dick in the dirt and stomp their living guts.

    Fuck ‘um is right.
