The SoS project

The Secretary of State Project is a Soros funded organization aimed at electing “reformer” Secretaries of State throughout the country:

With your support, we have made a major difference. We can be sure that the conservative Republicans and opponents of honest elections will try triply hard to regain lost seats and capture seats held by reformers.

Criteria for Endorsement by the SoS Project:

No election official should play a partisan role in an election he or she will play a role in administering. All election officials must conduct their responsibilities openly and objectively to restore public confidence.

Humn. Yet, let’s go back an read that first quote from the SoS website …

The founders are a bunch of progressives, so claims that they are anything but a partisan political group are silly and insulting.

In Michigan, the SoS project is supporting Jocelyn Benson. She’s their perfect choice.

From 2002-2004, she served as the Voting Rights Policy Coordinator of the Harvard Civil Rights Project, where she worked on the passage of the Help America Vote Act, the federal law that improved election law standards in the wake of the 2000 Presidential recount. And in 2004 she helped with the Democratic Party’s national voter protection effort, recruiting, selecting and training Voter Protection coordinators in 21 states with the goal of ensuring that the 2004 election was conducted with integrity in accordance with the law.

There’s something missing from her “about” page … what is it? I know it was mentioned in other articles about her … ah, I see Wiki hasn’t white-washed it

Prior to attending law school, Benson lived in Montgomery, Alabama, where she worked for the Southern Poverty Law Center as an investigative journalist, researching white supremacist and neo-Nazi organizations. Benson has also worked as a summer associate for voting rights and election law for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and as a legal assistant to Nina Totenberg at National Public Radio.[2]

Guess right now we don’t want to mention being affiliated with NPR, huh?

From Henry Payne’s “Michigan View” ;Jocelyn Benson is a Trojan Horse for Soros and progressives:

An analysis of Michigan election data finds that Democratic billionaire George Soros seems to be using Secretary of State candidate Jocelyn Benson as a Trojan Horse to influence future Michigan elections.
The data, reviewed for The Michigan by election expert Matthew Vadum of the Capital Research Center in Washington, DC, finds that Soros’ web of rich allies and shell organizations have contributed tens of thousands of dollars to Benson’s campaign and the Michigan Democratic Party. Soros’ hand has been in the headlines this week with his nearly $2 million contribution to National Public Radio and alleged meddling in the Juan Williams firing.

But, certainly, what can a Secretary of State do? Ask Al Franken.

This strategy achieved its biggest success in the 2008 Minnesota Senate campaign when Soros-backed Secretary of State Ritchie was instrumental in turning a loss for Al Franken into a victory with controversial recount-the-vote methods. Ritchie showed a “cavalier attitude toward electoral fraud” and his “shamelessly partisan conduct during the recount process cleared the way for Al Franken to steal (the) U.S. Senate election,” writes Vadum in the American Spectator.

Benson has been backed by Soros’s project since 2009.

But there’s more. “Benson is a candidate ACORN would love,” writes Vadum. “Last year in Michigan, she helped to lead the fight to stop the Republican secretary of state ‘from disenfranchising voters who were victims of home foreclosures.'”
Indeed, Benson has used Soros’ network of shadowy, Soros-funded groups to make the foreclosure conspiracy a centerpiece of her campaign even as the current SoS, Terry Lynn Land denies any such plot. In a candidate interview, The Detroit News editorial board asked Benson where she got her evidence.
Benson cited widespread “media reports.” When pressed on which media she was referring to, she admitted the conspiracy was “reported” by only one publication: The Michigan Messenger. What is the Michigan Messenger? A left-wing propaganda publication funded by George Soros.

  1. Hotspur Says:

I was going to comment yesterday at H2 about how fortunate we are in Michigan that voter fraud is rare.

I guess Jocelyn Benson would like to change all that.

  2. Holy cow, y’all are so screwed if this comes to pass.

  3. Car in Says:

Benson opposes picture ID to vote. And, she’s been bragging that she’s going to keep “corporate and special interests” out of elections.

  4. Car in Says:

I don’t think there has been much evidence of voter fraud in Michigan, but the standards have been very lax in and around Detroit regarding the illegal mix of politics and religion. Religious leaders telling their congregation who to vote for … church buses driving folks to vote. ETc.

I hate to say it, but separation of church and state is an ideal they only hold to white churches.
