Media Matters attempts to shut up Fox News

Media Matters joins with Tides Foundation and calls for advertisers to drop Fox News.

Today, Media Matters for America and People For the American Way joined Drummond Pike, founder and CEO of the Tides Foundation, in calling on advertisers to drop Fox News or risk being complicit in the network’s promotion of Glenn Beck’s dangerous extremism. Media Matters additionally launched DropFox.com, a website that will list Fox’s top advertisers, including JP Morgan Chase & Co, GEICO (Berkshire Hathaway), Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas, Inc (Time-Life), GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP, and The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

Why? Because Beck, and by extension Fox news, is going to cause another Oklahoma City bombing.

While we may agree to disagree about the role our citizens and our government should play in promoting social justice and the common good, there should be no disagreement about what constitutes integrity and professionalism and responsibility in discourse – even when allowing for and encouraging contending diverse opinions intelligently argued. This is not a partisan issue. It’s an American issue. No one, left, right or center, wants to see another Oklahoma City.

Tides folks HATE Beck because they are a progressive organization, he exposed them for what they are. Oklahoma City.

No hyperbole there. But, quick review of Oklahoma City: Timothy McVeigh and his coherts were motivated not by “speech” or Rush Limbaugh, but by the actions of the FBI in regards to the events at Ruby Ridge and Waco. EOL.

Typical liberal end-around. Since they can’t attract viewers away from Fox News with their ideas, they’ll attempt to shut them up via the purse strings. But as long as there are sizeable numbers of viewers, advertisers will come and pay.

It’s called free market capitalism, progs. Suck it!
