‘We exist to promote ourselves’

One of the Hostages pointed this out regarding Bono’s “ONE” organization:

ONE spokesman Oliver Buston has now defended the way the organisation is run, insisting the money is used for promoting its campaign and raising awareness rather than being given straight to those who need help.

They’re not exactly helping those in need. They’re helping those who express a desire to say they’re helping those in need. They’re devoted mainly to getting you to donate your money to “the cause.” It’s the marketing arm, you see.

In 2008, the ONE foundation had 9.6 million pounds in donations. 118,000 went to “good causes.” And 5.2 million pounds went toward salaries. So the donations? They mostly went to some fat-cat, pretend to do-gooder’s SALARY. Also, they paid for celebrities to get together and have parties where they talk about doing good. ’cause, you know, they can’t afford to do that shit on their income.

ONE spokesman Oliver Buston has now defended the way the organisation is run, insisting the money is used for promoting its campaign and raising awareness rather than being given straight to those who need help.
He said: ‘We don’t provide programmes on the ground. We’re an advocacy and campaigning organisation.’
Another spokesman in New York today dismissed the notion of lavish salaries being paid to its 120 members of staff and said the organisation was highly efficient in its raising of awareness.
ONE said it took no money from the public and that most of its funding came from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

So what? So what that they got the money from private donations? This is simply another example of do-gooders who basically are doing good for themselves.

Their website is mostly political advocacy. The front page has an appeal for President Obama to pledge $6 BILLION to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria.

$6 B-buh-buh-billion.

I wonder how much of THAT would go to someone’s ginormous salary.

It’s just so typical.
