QOTD

Do we send a government representative to the Chinese official commemoration ceremony for the 17 million Asians the Japanese killed in WWII?

Math is hard, but I’m pretty sure 140,000 is less than 17 million. On to the story:

AN AMERICAN representative participated for the first time in Japan’s annual commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima yesterday, in a 65th anniversary event that the organizers hope will bolster global efforts toward nuclear disarmament.
The site of the world’s first nuclear bomb attack echoed with the choirs of schoolchildren and the solemn ringing of bells on Friday as Hiroshima marked its biggest memorial yet. At 8:15am – the time the bomb dropped – a moment of silence was observed in memory of the 140,000 people who died in the first of two nuclear bombings that prompted Japan’s surrender in the Second World War.

I’m sure a nuclear blast is a pretty bad way to go, but I doubt the 17 million Asians who died in other ways, at the hands of the Japanese, found the experience any better.

“We need to communicate to every corner of the globe the intense yearning of the survivors for the abolition of nuclear weapons,” Mr Akiba told the 55,000 people at the ceremony.

Do they even STUDY history in Japan?

Hiroshima was careful to ensure the memorial emphasised a forward-looking approach, focusing not on whether the bombing was justified, but on averting future nuclear attacks.

Yea, I bet.

Thinking back to better days, before nuclear weapons … it took the Imperial Japanese Army six weeks to kill 260,000 peps, but perhaps the raping of between 20,000 and 80,000 women slowed them down?

But they were determined. 17 million dead Asians at the hands of the Japanese.

And Obama is commemorating the Japanese dead.

So many things to say, like how radiation can kill for 1000 years!

Oh wait there is a public park at ground zero, that cannot be right.

Or the fact that Japan planed to sacrifice millions of its citizens for a more favorable peace treaty.

But Bob will tell us that America was bad.
    Right.

The text of one the military manuals I used back in the day clearly stated that most of the victims in Hiroshima succumbed to skidding, and they used that exact word.
Honestly, that wasn’t much of a blast. Somewhere between 10-12 KT. Ignore Wiki on this as I was able to read the military’s TSCA docs on it.
