Is Nickelback responsible for the decline in current rock music?

My buddy Happyfeet used to always say he hated Nickelback because the singer sounded too angsty or earnest or something. But I believe the crimes of this band go a tad deeper. They have apparently started an avalanch of bands that sound just like them.

Theory of a Deadman
Puddle of Mudd
Black Stone Cherry
3 Days Grace

Gah. Make it stop.

Palate cleanser.

I say no. What is wrong with Rock music is control. The record companies (heh) and the radio stations. I had hoped that You Tube and the innertubes would have had a greater effect on the creativity of musicians to create and market new music.

Rock is stagnant and growth is slow, once in a while a band comes along that is different and breaks out (or through) then success is imitated copied refined until it is blase.

Well, I think good/new music is out there. It’s just hard to find.

I don’t know much about how bands/musicians develop now-a-days, but a trend I did notice is that many bands are very loosely formed. They play together (mostly covers) while they each individually try to go it alone.

I don’t get that. It’s as if they each think they’re better than those they play with, or they don’t want to compromise.

Rock died when the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper crashed.

Don MacLean even made a song about it.

Rock died when Jefferson Airplane morphed into Jefferson Starship.
